Hello, and welcome to 2009

What a pleasant surprise it is to find that a post Joe_bu wrote last April Fool's Day has come to bear the fruit of increased traffic, and some coincidental prognostication.

In April of '08, he wrote:

Johan Santana to have Tommy John surgery

Ha Ha! A poor April Fools joke? No. A dark prophesy waiting to come true. Yep....
Check it out for yourself, if you'd like. Myself, I don't like to look back, but forward to a time of a pitching rotation of "I've lost my way" Maine, "I'm trying to get better" Pelfrey, "I don't know what I'm going to give you today" Perez, "I am not good" Redding, and player to be named later (a phrase that never sat well with me) of "I'm always hurt" Garcia, "I'm too old" Hernandez, and "I'm too young" Niese.

Watching the Mess take on the Cardinals the other day, Keith Hernandez mentioned how pull-happy David Wright got towards the end of last season. What he forgot to mention was how pull-happy he got at the end of each of the past few seasons. He tightens up almost as much as Mike Piazza, and there's only so much of that the team should tolerate. There's no reason for me to say "only so much as we (as fans) will tolerate" because we're fans, not team managers or GMs who decide who's in the starting nine. I hope that HoJo can convince Wright to keep hitting the ball to right center and not worry about dingers. It's not like we want to see our boy make a jackass of himself in another Home Run Derby anyway (which is what we, as fans, should comment on).

Reyes is looking good. I'd like to see him steal better bases this year. I know it hurts having Castillo not helping, and maybe Castillo should bat seventh or eighth until he gets his bat back. It would've been nice to pick up Orlando Hudson and just eat Castillo's salary. I know, I'm not the GM, and I don't pretend to be.

I don't pay attention to Spring Training performance, just injuries. More from me soon, but 2009 officially starts in April. Let's hope no one gets hurt in the untimely WBC.
